ITALIMPIANTI ORAFI spa IAO/BR50 PVDF ROTATING TUMBLER Aqua regia gold refining tumbler and silver nitrate production - Year 2023 

Italimpianti Orafi aqua regia refining tumblers are a state-of-the-art solution for refining gold alloys and offer a quicker, more flexible and user-friendly approach compared to traditional static glassware units. This IAO/BR50 model consists of a Polyvinylidene fluoride PVDF tumbler with a total volume of about 100 litres, inclined to 30° and rotated by a motor, with the possibility to adjust the rotation speed. The rotation forces the gold grains to continuously rub against each other reducing the overall dissolution time. The tumbler has a useful capacity of about 50 litres (acids plus gold grains). A Pyrex glass condenser, connected to the fume outlet on the tumbler, condenses the acid fumes released during the process thus reducing the volume requiring neutralisation and resulting in a more efficient fume scrubbing operation. 7.5 kg of grains can be refined per batch with the possibility to treat two batches per standard working shift. Depending on initial composition, a purity of 999.5/1000 is guaranteed – higher purities can be achieved if starting parameters fall within certain restrains, like quantity of gold and silver present in the initial alloy.

ITALIMPIANTI ORAFI spa – TLF/750-N Fume scrubber for acid fumes with NOx pre-treatment (for Aqua regia refining) - Year 2023 

The tower is used to neutralize acid fumes. It is made out of polypropylene sheets and has a nozzle to spray a thick layer of plastic rings inside of the main body of the scrubber to increase the contact surface. The fumes are mixed with air/oxygen before to enter inside the tower in a mixing pipe (NOx pre-treatment). The flowrate of inlet gas can be controlled by using an Inverter (OPTIONAL). The scrubber can be equipped with a pH meter to control the acidity (OPTIONAL).

Water coming from the refining process can be treated with this plant which consists of: 

• n°1 tank complete with agitator to stir the solution to be neutralised
• n.1 Filter press with pneumatic pump

The filter press is used to filter the neutralised solutions and retain the copper, zinc etc. hydroxides. The components of the filter press, from the smallest to the largest, are single-block structures that are electrically welded, machined and carefully inspected; the design has allowed for very low stress levels, even under maximum operating pressure. The heads and longitudinal bars are plated with stainless steel or other metals depending on the chemical properties of the solutions to be filtered. The cloths, the shape and the dimensions of the plates, as well as the materials used inside the filter elements, constitute the most important part of a filter press. The choice of these elements is the result of years of experience on the part of those who are familiar with these problems. The pump is provided with an electronic level control probe for the automatic starting and stopping of the plant.
